  Welcome to Graz
  Hotel Drei Raben Info

Graz

Imbedded between quaint mountains in the North, smooth hills in the East and wide plains in the South, Graz, the capital of Styria and second biggest city of Austria, is located.

Sights in Graz

Due to the perfect mixture of an excellent architecture of all styles, an interesting past and a modern cultural scene, the city got the title “European Capital of Culture 2003”.
This project left its mark and the newly created vanguard designs form, together with the traditional elements, interesting energies.
Graz is historic and modern at the same time and offers a broad range of attractive beauties: the Schlossberg, the Kunsthaus, the Mur Island, the playhouse, the Opera house or the Cathedral speak for themselves and are a must.
This can be started in a totally unhurried way, because almost all places of interest are located in reach of elegant coffee houses, delicious restaurants, colorful markets or trendy bars, which invite for breaks as well as the manifold shopping facilities in the shopping mile, the Herrengasse or the surrounding small streets and lanes.
In the evening, the numerous theatre, opera and musical performances set again and again a course in the well-known and creative art scene.

Recovery in Graz

But Graz even offers much more. Perhaps it is the Italian flair, the mild climate, the cozy lifestyle or a combination of all three things, which gives such a relaxed feeling to the visitors. Besides the many sights, which add a lively atmosphere to Graz, the city also offers quiet and snug spots, which invite for dreaming, relaxing and lingering.

Graz is famous for its romantic courtyards. There is the gorgeous courtyard of Landhaus, which is, with arcades on three floors, a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance and brings a touch of Nothern Italy right in the center of Graz.
Or the silent arcaded courtyard of the former Deutschordenhaus, which can be reached during a walk through the centuries-old Sporgasse. The ground is totally covered with “Murnockerln” (small stones from the Mur river) and revives the medieval Graz.
Several long inner courtyards with very different designs – with Renaissance arcades or in elaborate Baroque style- can be found in the Sackstraße, situated between the river Mur and Schlossberg.
A special quiet and peaceful spot is the small monastery garden, which is surrounded by the Gothic cloister of the Franciscan Monastery, probably the most prominent among the traditional Graz landmarks.
From there, the main bridge is reachable within a few minutes in order to go downstairs to the new “Mur-Promenade”. This also is an ideal place to pause for a moment or to dangle the tired feet in the fresh water.

Green places in Graz

Graz presents itself as a very green city. More than 70% of its area are green spaces and tree-lined pathways change with spacious lawns and smaller green oases. The Stadtpark (city park) stretches like a belt around the formerly fortified Old Town and offers perfect recovery for young and old people.
The tree-clad Schlossberg attracts people, in springtime by fresh green, in summer by shady trees and in autumn by the blaze of colors, all the year round. Below the traditional landmark of Graz, the Clock Tower, there is the Herbersteingarden, where Mediterranean plants, like fig and lemon trees or ginkgos, blossom on sun terraces since 1930 and where visitors have a terrific view of the red roofscape of the Old Town.
