Hiking in Vorarlberg

For hikers, there are cosy promenades and also well available pathways. Or you tramp up- and downhill on one of the long far routes from cottage to cottage. More than 30 mountain railways and chairlifts facilitate the rise in an unique mountainous scenery with splendid lookout points, like the “Pfänder” (1064m), which can be considered as a highlight of the region with its 360° panorama to Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Germany and Austria and 240 alpine peaks.

Mountainbiking in Vorarlberg and at Lake Constance

Whether relaxing biking or active training – cyclists and mountain bikers find sufficient rails and trails with every degree of difficulty; alone in the plains of the Rheintal, in Walgau or in the valleys of Bregenzerwald, Montafon and Klostertal, there are cycle tracks with a total length of more than 300 km. Particularly advisable is the 120km long circuit of the Lake Constance route, which leads along the Austrian, German and Swiss lakeshore. Best you cover single legs of the tour with one of the crafts of the shipping company “Weiße Flotte” (“white fleet”), bikes can be taken along.
During the well-deserved break the lake invites to swim or you start a trip to the “Flower Island” of Mainau which enchants not only those with green fingers. The September is the time of the dahlia with a magnificent play of colours and autumnal highlight in more than 250 varieties.

Sights in Bregenz

Those, who also long for culture, should visit Bregenz. The two thousand years old regional capital enthuse with a mixture of mediaeval walls, modern architecture and with a lot of leisure facilities in the festival hall, numerous theatres and galleries and also in the “Kunsthaus” or casino. Don’t miss the upper city with its splendid middle-class houses, cozy squares and romantic little houses. Besides, there is the emblem of Bregenz, the Martin’s Tower with its famous wooden onion spire.
