Worth knowing
Oberwiesenthal is the highest town in Germany. It is located at 914 m altitude at the foot of the 1215 m high 'Fichtelberg'. A special attraction is the 1924 built and thus oldest cable car in Germany, which connects a height difference of 303 m between mountain and valley. The steam-powered narrow-gauge railway between Cranzahl and Oberwiesenthal, which has meanwhile been running for over 100 years, also attracts many visitors. From their predecessors, the stagecoaches, testifies a beautiful post-distance column on the market place of Oberwiesenthal. Oberwiesenthal is the border station to the Czech Republic. Karlovy Vary, one of the three world-famous spas of the Czech spa triangle, can be reached in about half an hour's drive. Oberwiesenthal is also known as a competitive sports center and Olympic training center, as well as the venue for various top sporting events. In the Erzgebirge even old traditions are enthusiastically cared. Not only the bobbin lace, but also the carving and folkloric traditions are alive everywhere.Recreation and leisure facilities
